Recent Classical Guitar News

Sadly, there are two recent news items of the passing of two noted guitar figures.

Aaron Shearer has died (4/19/08) Notes from Christopher Berg: I'm writing with the sad news that Aaron Shearer passed away peacefully yesterday evening at the Reynolds Hospice in Winston-Salem. He had been in declining health for several years.

Chris continues: Aaron had a profound effect on the guitarists who studied with him, and there were many. He changed the way guitarists approached their instrument and even had an impact on those who did not study with him directly. His guitar program at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore was the first guitar program at a U.S. conservatory and became the model for future programs throughout the country. I, along many if his former students, feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to study with him.
